Karah Prashad (Guru Parav Special)

                                                         

The Karah is a sacred food. Karah is a type of Halwa made with equal portions of Whole-Wheat flour,Desi Ghee and sugar.It is offered to all visitors to the Darbar Sahib in a Gurudwara.It is regarded as a treat for attendees of GURMAT SEMINARS.As a sign of humility and respect, visitors accept the Karah sitting,with hands raised and cupped.

INGREDIENTS


  • Whole Wheat Flour(Atta)-1 cup
  • Sugar -1 cup
  • Desi Ghee(Clarified butter)-1 cup
  • Water-3 cup

HOW TO MAKE KARAH PRASHAD

In a pan add 1 cup sugar.

Add 3 cup water.

Stir the solution so that all the sugar dissolves.

Give it to a boil. Keep aside.

In a heavy bottom broad pan add ghee,

When ghee melts then add the wheat flour.

Mix very well to get a mixture without lumps.

Stir fry the whole wheat flour on a low flame in ghee.

Fry it stirring non-stop.

The color of the flour will change as you keep on stirring and cooking it.Keep on stirring.

When flour become golden brown  

Add hot sugar syrup.

Stir it continuously while pouring water.

Mix and stir very well.

now cook the karah prashad stirring non-stop, 

The mixture will thicken when it gets cooked.

Keep stirring it very quickly to avoid lumps ,

It has started leaving the sides of the pan and ghee start separating from halwa.

It is ready to serve.


Serve it hot or warm.
