Modak (Ganesh Chathurthi Special)

Modak is a very popular MAHARASHTRIAN dish.It is prepared during GANESH CHATURTHI.
Modak are sweet dumplings .Lord Ganesha  loves Modak.Peaple celebrate this festival with lot of enthusiasum all over  India.But this festival celebrated in Maharashtra with lot of excitment.The celebration can go upti ten days and each day modak recipe is must offering Here is step by step recipe of modak.

INGREDIENTS      (1 CUP=240ml)

INGREDIENTS FOR MODAK DOUGH (Outer cover)

  • Rice flour-1.5 cup
  • Ghee-1 tsp ghee
  • Water-1 cup +1/4 cup
  • Salt-1 pinch
  • Ghee for greasing-1 tsp

INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING OF MODAK

  • Grated Coconut-2 cups
  • Powdered jaggery-1 cup
  • Cardamom powder-1/2 tsp
  • Ghee-1 tsp
  • Dry fruits-1/2 cup

HOW TO PREPARE MODAK



Take a pan. Add 1 teaspoon ghee , jaggery and coconut. Saute it on low flame until both blend well.

Saute together jaggery and coconut until both blend well.

Add dry fruits and cardamom powder.

Mix well and switch off the flaime.

    MAKING DOUGH

Heat water in a pan.Add salt and ghee.

Bring it to boil.Switch off the flame.

Add  rice flour.

Stir  it well.

Mix the flour well with water.Don't worry if the dough is dry.

Cover and allow to rest for 5-6 minutes.

Now transfer the mixture into large bowl or parat.

When the flour is still hot,knead with your hands.

Sprinkle water if needed.Make small Lemon sized ball .

Rest the dough covered with a damp cloth.
With the help of thumb and forefinger gently pinch off very little dough to make a pleat on outer side.make as many pleats as you can.
Scoop  1 tablespoon coconut jaggery mixture.Seal giving a good shape.

Grease your palm with ghee. Flatten the dough.

Bring water to boil in a heavy bottomed kadhai.

Place modak stand and put banana leaf in it.

Place modak in the basket.

Steam the modak for 10 minutes.

Let them cool for a few minutes.

Offer Modak to Lord Ganesha and celebrate Ganesh Chathurthi.
